Customer Rating: Summary: A bit tame, but sweet none the less Comment: I'm a Gen junkie, having almost everything of theirs from 120 Days right up to this DVD. I've seen several shows by them, and overall, this DVD does an excellent job capturing their essence on stage. I will admit that a lot of the stage action is toned down (very much so), but remains true to them. As far as censoring goes, there is only a scene or two blocked out due to the fact that if it remained uncensored, the DVD would HAVE to get an X rating. I don't recommend purchasing this DVD if you know nothing about the band, as some people have. But otherwise, 5/5 on my end. ^_^
Customer Rating: Summary: PRETTY AWFUL !!!! ....SAVE YOUR MONEY !!!!! Comment: I am so happy to be able to add my review for balance and give this DVD the rating and review it really deserves.
Having never heard this band in my life but long aware of their perverted and wild live stage shows that accompany their music, I was keen on obtaining this DVD just to satisfy my curiosity. Long before Marilyn Manson came along, this band has shocked thousands for many years.
First off I have to say the music was better than I had expected. The band was hard, tight, and entertaining through most of the songs.
But as a visual presentation of the band, this DVD was a major disappointment and a waste of money. The final credits showed that there were at least 15 performers on the stage at one time or another as the band was performing. But to watch this DVD, one would never have known it except for a few titillating scenes which were soon covered over with cheesy layers of light and annoying interference. I have been around long enough to tell the difference between lights and strobes on the stage and a bunch of garbage added to the performance later as an afterthought or a feeble attempt at obscuring certain scenes of the actual performance.
The live performances which would have been amazing to watch were absolutely destroyed by whoever did the editing of this DVD. The scenes were choppy, jerky, and there was blatant censoring of most scenes. And the censoring was done badly. Amateurish layering of colors and strobing over the original picture made it difficult to see what was really going on during the performances.
Why can't these people who want to record a band visually just stick a few cameras on a few tripods and just edit the stuff later by camera angles only. Forget about trying to be artistic and making it your video. This band has been around since before DVDs were ever on the scene. Do the band justice, show them live as the audience saw them. If you can't do that, don't bother marketing a DVD and trying to make it look over the top and outrageous.
By the way, the image on the cover of the DVD was never in the actual DVD, and if it was, it was obscured with visual crap painted over the original pictures.
This DVD was frustrating and a monumental tribute to egotistical, amateurish, backroom editors who think they have a vision and that it should take precedence over the actual performers the DVD is about. Who cares!!! I wanted to see the band, not a bunch of exploding colors obscuring the actual performance.
And the person who okayed the final release of this product should get into a new line of work. It was awful.
Save your money. This DVD is crapola and a rip off.
Customer Rating: Summary: Simply Exquisite Comment: I am happy to be the first person to review this outstanding DVD from the Genitorturers. Their first DVD was so sick that it was unwatchable, but this one is pure art and purely enjoyable. The main body of the DVD is comprised of ten live video-like clips (which sound good enough to have been recorded in a studio, which they probably were). There are three new songs, with two of them absolutely awesome ("Cum Junky" and "Devil in a Bottle"). They are definitely going for a more straight-forward rock sound on their next album. Other than those songs, pretty much all of their great songs are here (with the exception of "120 Days"). I could have done without the Sin City stuff, but the songs from Flesh is the Law definitely make up for it.
All of the videos are very beautiful and artistic to watch. There are a lot of effects on the screen (different words, flames, different shading of the screen, etc.) which are really cool to the eye. And of course, there is the one-of-a-kind stage show featured which has made the Genitorturers the favorite that they are.
There aren't a lot of bad things to say about this DVD. It is absolutely worth every cent it costs. The only drawback I think is the disturbing stage stunt they do during the entire song "House of Shame." That's probably my favorite song by the band & I can't really watch it because the stunt is so weird.
Again, this DVD is nothing like their god-awful "Society of Genitorture" thing they put out about ten years ago which was just disgusting. This is live performance at its best. The music is great, the band members are very charismatic on stage (in particular Gen and the mighty David Vincent), and finally the Genitorturers have achieved the full potential of the sublime persona that they present to the world. Definitely five stars.
