Customer Rating: Summary: Great Seller Comment: Great Product. I loved Dr. Quinn when I was younger and am so glad to watch it again. One minor glitch in the last Disc, but I am glad that the Movies Disc came with it as a bonus.
Customer Rating: Summary: Whether To Buy The Entire Series, Or Individually By Season?...THAT is The Question! Comment: This review refers to "DR.Quinn, Medicine Woman" Seasons 1-6 DVDs(Entire Series)
"Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman" is such an addicting series that some may want to consider buying them in this package with all 6 seasons, at once. You can try to limit yourself to only one episode a day, but you will probably find that impossible. I found myself once again involved in the lives of the townsfolk of 19th century Colorado Springs. Dr. Mike, Matthew, Colleen, little Brian, Loren, Myra, Horrace, Hank, Jake, Robert E., Grace, Cloud Dancing, Black Kettle, Miss Olive, The Reverend, and Sully(ahhhh... Sully), have all touched me in some way. After each episode I am left with a tear running down my cheek or a lump in my throat, but most often with a smile, that may now need to be surgically removed!
The stories are so well written and heartwarming. There are very few TV series today that even come close. Week by week, the townspeople slowly warm to a lady Doctor treating their ailments(sometimes adding great tension to the story), as friendships and bonds develop, the love between Dr. Mike and her new family grows, and of course as her friendship with Sully(ahhhh... Sully), turns to romance. Each episode has something new to offer. Some are full of danger and adventure, others touched my heart, some made me laugh, and I even received a bit of a history lesson in each epsiode.
The weekly cast including Jane Seymour, Joe Lando(ahhhh... Sully), Orson Bean, Gail Strickland, Chad Allen and Larry Sellers held me captive with their outstanding work on the series, and great performances by legendary guest stars such as Jane Wyman, Johnny Cash, Diane Ladd, Kenny Rogers, and Robert Culp, add to this already quality program. Add to that the fabulous music of William Olvis, the beautiful cinematography, great direction, and marvelous period costumes and well..I'm hooked!
The DVDs are nicely packaged. Each volume(usually about 6 or 7 per season)are in their own keepcases. The feature length pilot is also included in Season 1.They look and sound terrific. The picture is clear with vibrant and lush colors. The Dolby Digital Sound is excellent, and ALL the credits are there.Among the bonus features you'll find some commentary on a few episodes The A&E episode of "Biography" featuring Jane Seymour, a photo gallery and the tour of Colorado Springs. Each disc has it's own interactive menu for episodes and scene access as well.
The one disappointing fact about the these DVDs, is that there are no subtitles or captions for those who need them in order to enjoy this beautiful series(my only reason for taking a star off, this otherwise excellent product). I have had my sets for a while, so you may want to check the product info, or check with a an outside seller(you can e-mail questions to them through Ammy), to see if there have been any newer editions out, that may have updated with this feature.
So the question is whether to splurge and buy the entire series, and have them on hand, or buy each season separately. If you can afford to buy this package of the entire series, and already know how much you love this program, or you are buying it for a gift for someone who does, I say go for it. But it is a big chunk to plop down. There are a few ways to aquire this series, and it just takes a little surfing and some Math to decide. At this time, Amazon does not have it in stock, and although I can't mention prices, I can tell you that buying the entire series from an outside seller costs much less than buying each season indivdually fron Amazon. The cost of the big package from the sellers, compared to buying individually from them is very close(at this time). When purchasing from outside merchants, you must consider the cost of shipping charges as well(The are prices high enough per set, that they would qualify for the free shipping if purchased through Amazon right now). DVDs have a set price for shipping from the merchants, and whether you buy a single disc or an entire season, the shipping is the same for a single purchase. I put this 6 season set(which probably contains between 35-40 discs) into my shopping cart and at the check out I could see the the shipping cost(from a merchant), was the same as for 1 DVD on it's own.
If you have patience, you can also just put each season on your wish list or shopping cart, and keep an eye for a really good deal. Individual seasons, from the outside sellers are the better bargain then the Amazon prices(even with a shipping charge on each). It's easy to compare.Just look at the "other versions and languages sold" section on 1st page of this product. It's all right there, Amazon's price for each season, and the lowest outside price. You don't have to do much surfing around to figure out which is the best way to go at the time you are shopping.
This series will take you away to another time and place and you many not want to come back!(and did I mention Sully?) So this big package may be worth considering. Enjoy with caution(be careful, very addicting)...Laurie
Customer Rating: Summary: Totally the Best Comment: I love this show so much. The good, the bad, and of course the sad. There are several episodes that are guaranteed to make you cry. The extras on the dvds are cool too. Especially reading all the biographies of the kids (who are no longer kids) who played Matthew (Chad Allen), Colleen (Erika FLores, and Jessica Bowman)and Brian (Shawn Tovey). Beautiful show.
