Customer Rating: Summary: The Bible for parents of children with autism who receive ABA Therapy! Comment: Educate Toward Recovery: Turning the Tables on Autism Having partnering in founding an ABA Clinic for Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention [EIBI]in Myrtle Beach SC, this book was recommended as necessary for maximum benefit of a child with autism from ABA Therapy by the Director of the clinic. As a grandparent of a child with autism and partner in founding the clinic here, I state that it is the best resource for parents to complete what is occuring with their child in EIBI, without it you are losing the continuity and consistenct needed to reach recovery from autism.
Customer Rating: Summary: very good, useful to start an ABA -VB program at home Comment: My son's ABA therapist recommended this book and it is so great!!
simple and with so many stories to relate to of other children that struggle with learning every day. That's what this is about, a teaching method that works for kids with autism, with positive reinforcers.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great introduction to ABA/VB! Comment: I missed a seminar by the author in Dallas so I ordered this book and glad I did. It has inspired me to use VB in working with my son who has ASD. Using the techniques in this book, I am confident we can educate him toward recovery. Good luck to all parents and professionals in helping your special children!
Customer Rating: Summary: Best book for learning VB Comment: I bought and read this book on the recommendation of my autistic son's speech therapist. Robert Schramm really has created a very readable guide to ABA with Skinner's analysis of VB. It is appropriately interspersed with anecdotes of children to demonstrate the points being made. The book is very comprehensive and informative, but most of all it is interesting (which is saying a lot about a "teaching manual") and it is inspiring. After reading this book, I really understood how to help my son. It's a little expensive for a book but worth every penny. There are other books out there that I have gleaned useful information from, but this one is the one I always reference- and if I could only have one book about autism, this would be it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good for novices Comment: I am a professional in the field, so I was hoping this would be more of a curriculum based book that would provide insight to new procedures. This book will not be of much value if you are an educated behaviorist and already have knowledge of Skinner's analysis of verbal behavior. However, it is a great directory for parents & therapists new to the world of ABA. If you fall in the latter category...it is a good buy!

A Teaching Manual for the Verbal Behavior Approach to ABA: "Robert Schramm has written a book that is a must read for parents, therapists, and teachers of children with autism. This book is clear, heartfelt, informative, and provides behavioral terminology in a way that is applicable and easy to understand. He has beautifully explained Applied Behavior Analysis as an effective, scientifically validated treatment for autism. Robert's book offers realistic hope in a world where it is needed most. We personally recommend this book to every parent or educator of a child in need." (Cherish Twigg, MS, BCBA and Holly Kibbe, MS, BCBA) "This is the best book on the Verbal Behavior approach to ABA that I have seen. If I was going to recommend only one book to either the parents of a child with autism or to anyone who is trying to help a child with autism, this is the book that I would recommend... I would give it five stars out of five." (Reg Reynolds, Ph.D., C.Psych)
