Summary: Infant Mental Health Resource
Comment: This book was so thourough, covering everything from risk and protective factors, to intervention, assessment and psychopathology. I especially like the breakdown in the end of the cross-disciplinary training in infant mental health. Also the chapter on Early Chilhood Policy: Implications for mental health policy. We cannot look at children in isolated pockets of health. This book speaks to every step forward that we need to take to serve the social-emotional health of our children.

Summary: Essential reading for graduate students and professionals
Comment: This book represents a comprehensive discussion of factors that influence the social and emotional health of very young children, when it goes well and when it goes awry. Many of the chapters deal with specific disorders of infancy and early childhood and with intervention techniques. It is essential reading for graduate students as well as professionals interested in infant/toddler mental health.

Editorial Reviews:

Grounded in a relational view of infancy, this volume offers a comprehensive analysis of developmental, clinical, and social aspects of mental health from birth to age 3. Essential topics addressed include models of development, neurobiology, the family and cultural contexts of infant mental health, and frequently encountered disorders of infancy. Assessment and intervention are discussed in depth, with coverage of practitioner-based models of psychotherapy as well as programmatic approaches to prevention and early intervention. Also covered are important issues related to family and social policy, such as the effects on infant development of early child care and parental divorce.
