Summary: Solid info, annoying author
Comment: I have been training with a kettlebell on and off for three or four years now. I tend to do it mainly in the spring and summer months, when the weather is so nice that I just hate to be in the gym. It makes for great training out of doors. And it honestly does make for a refreshing and challenging alternative from classic barbells and dumbbells. Kettlebell training is challenging, and it adds a new dynamic. I find it combines resistance and cardio training quite nicely, but it may not suit some who prefer one over the other.
To the book itself: Pavel's information is actually quite useful. In all of his books, the information is solid and there is actually plenty of scientific fact to back it up. Unfortunately, he shows a great apathy toward actually citing those scientific facts and explaining them. Therein lay the biggest problem with all his titles.
Pavel is the definition of a former communist eagerly embracing capitalism in all its green glory. He constantly plugs his other books and products. He uses hammy and over the top showmanship to try to make his products more likeable and trendy to potential customers. He keeps his books slim so he can release more later on-all at rather disproportionate prices, of course. He makes the classic claims of all fitness entrepreneurs that his methods and products will give miracle results with practically no effort at all. And he pretty much assumes that the majority of the general public are morons who just want to skip to the end, so why bother them with the details?
He's trying to make a bigger buck. Can't be blamed for that. However, it does rob him and his titles of some legitimacy that might be reclaimed if he would start compressing some of his books into single editions, and chose to add just a bit more fact and a bit less boisterousness.

Summary: RUSSIAN KETTLEBELL CHALLENGE
Comment: this book was quite humorous but i thought there would be more how to use it ie more exercise sets, how to start how to finish what should you be aiming for after a month of use etc it was quite poor in this regard as he spent a lot of time waffling.

Summary: One book is all you need...
Comment: I bought this book two years ago and have been using kettlebells since then.

This book gives the "basics" of kettlebell training, the presses and the "explosive" movements: snatch and clean and jerk.

These exercises are simple, but effective. The book does do a good job of explaning them.

Using the exercises found in this book an individual can train effectively for years.

Summary: Some of it, I felt was not neccesary . . .
Comment: Pavel added really great workouts for that is gets a 4 star rating . . . but i would have given it a 5 stars rating if it did not includes a bunch of things I did not really care about. I found it bothersome. It was my impression that Pavel tries to sell you on the whole kettlebell workout thing. While reading I kept thinking to myself wow there is a bunch of things here I don't care about, like history of the kettlebell workout and how it can help my skinny body get huge. Now I realize you can skip all this because it is a book . . . that is a welcome feature in a books. Hope this helps you make a decision!

Summary: Best thing since sliced bread
Comment: I had flown past the 60 year old landmark and was feeling it. Deciding I needed to do something to slow the inevitable slide, yet not wanting to devote my remaining life to fitness training, I decided to try kettlebells as they provide a great workout in just a few minutes per day which was the amount of time that I wanted to allot for workout training.

Wow... There is not much else to say. After about six months, I feel better than I have since I was in my 30's or early 40's. Energy in surplus, I don't tire when doing any moderately strenuous activity. Golfers take note, it added 25 yards to my drives and more than a half club lenght to my iron shots. I now sleep like a stone where as before I would toss and turn. Oddly, I sleep less time but awake completely refreshed. Could be my age - fitness combination, I don't have an answer to that one.

I have a friend who is in his 40's and is in fairly good shape, I now need to stop for him when we are on long uphill hikes. Before he would stop for me. Now he is a believer and ordered the book and a kettlebell.

Highly recommended to anyone who is not satisfied with aging the old fashioned way.

Editorial Reviews:

If you are looking for a supreme edge in your chosen sport—seek no more!

Both the Soviet Special Forces and numerous world-champion Soviet Olympic athletes used the ancient Russian Kettlebell as their secret weapon for xtreme fitness. Thanks to the kettlebells's astonishing ability to turbocharge physical performance, these Soviet supermen creamed their opponents time-and-time-again, with inhuman displays of raw power and explosive strength.

Now, former Spetznaz trainer, international fitness author and nationally ranked kettlebell lifter, Pavel Tsatsouline, delivers this secret Soviet weapon into your own hands.

You NEVER have to be second best again! Here is the first-ever complete kettlebell training program—for Western shock-attack athletes who refuse to be denied—and who'd rather be dead than number two.

-Get really, really nasty—with a commando's wiry strength, the explosive agility of a tiger and the stamina of a world-class ironman

-Own the single best conditioning tool for killer sports like kickboxing, wrestling, and football

-Watch in amazement as high-rep kettlebells let you hack the fat off your meat—without the dishonor of aerobics and dieting

-Kick your fighting system into warp speed—with high-rep snatches and clean-and-jerks

-Develop steel tendons and ligaments—and a whiplash power to match

-Effortlessly absorb ballistic shocks—and laugh as you shrug off the hardest hits your opponent can muster

-Go ape on your enemies—with gorilla shoulders and tree-swinging traps
